where's home?

Each day has been filled with random errands of setting up a new life. New drivers licenses, designing the house plans, organizing contractors, power, and telephone. Many people with many different schedules. We also needed to find a 4x4 truck to do work on the site and since the dirt road to the land is steep!!! We went to weekly ex-goverment auto auctions and scoured used car lots. We met a bloke who drove an old Jaguar on the ferry who gave us contacts for auto repairs. After a few calls, located a mechanic in Hobart who worked on old British cars, and he had most of the parts in stock needed to repair the Rover. With a loaner car (a blessing!) we drove to and fro. Power on the block of land was the first order of business. After meeting with the Aurora power company designer, we came up with two options - 1. Two poles 130 meters up drive way from the road, then underground 160 meters up to the building site, or 2. underground all the way. Both options required the re-positioning of a main power pole into our property (luckily free by Aurora). Then this design had to be confirmed with the electrician and coordinated with Telstra telephone installers. Timing was the key. Meanwhile, our main house plans were not complete, but the smaller building (we call it “the shed”, 4 bay garage and carport which we planned to live in while building) design was, so we worked on gathering all the paperwork to submit them. We met with the steel frame company, and managed by phone to get the waste systems designs completed. At times it seemed like way too many big decisions to make, and the stress was setting in, new country, new lifestyle, spending money on big decisions... What are we doing?
