Pakistan, May 5 to June 2, 2006
Wait, why are they doing this? Flashback to July 2005 - The three of us met at a CASBA (California Straw Building Association) Pro course last summer, and Graham and Troy wanted more experience building with strawbale - they worked with Darcey and her husband Bill for 2 months and then on other projects over the next 6 months. Darcey, a civil engineer, saw a CASBA listserve request for volunteers help on engineering earthquake relief shelters in Pakistan. She made contact with Greg Zaller and they worked on the first strawbale structure near Bissian, for Dosti Welfare Organization in Pakistan. Soon after she contacted Troy and Graham, and plans were made for the three to go over and build the second - back to the story... Our driver Zumurad met us promptly and we got through customs quickly with no issues. We then had a 2 hour drive north to Abbottabad, where the old Dosti headquarters was located. The next day we traveled further north to visit other Dosti project centers, and on the third day we settled into a guest house in Mansehra - 2 hours north of Abbottabad, and began work on the Strawbale construction project in Jabbori another 2 hours north of Mansehra. These pages photo chronicle our time, friends and work in Pakistan.Pakistan Straw Bale Jabbori & Sights Emails
